Position: Communications Director Random Fact: My husband and I have three Boxers: Reese (10) and siblings Moose and Flower (2). Explain your journey to becoming a consultant.
After working in the corporate world for 8 years, I decided to take a large leap of faith and start my own business. With a lot of help from my husband, I was able to do so, but something was still missing. Colton Strawser's family and I have been acquaintances since 1994 so when he reached out in need of some nonprofit consultant, I immediately realized that was what was missing in my life. My void of helping people and nonprofit organizations was fulfilled! What are the causes you most care about and why? My causes that I most care about are higher education, law enforcement and mental health. I was fortunate to have the president of my Trine University create me a full-time position when I graduated in May 2008. Still to this day I tell people my four years of college were the best years of my life so to be able to turn around and give back to the university as a full-time employee for 6 years was even better. Since then, I have been a part-time employee for Hendricks County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 132 which is next door to Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. As for mental health, my dad was a functioning bipolar depressant who ran a successful land surveying business for 22 years before he passed away from heart disease at the young age of 58. Mental health has been swept under the rug for too long. People view their own mental issues as embarrassing which they should not. Mental, physical and emotional health needs to be treated the same all across the board. What is the most challenging part of your work? Time management. I will never forget my first full-time job evaluation meeting. My boss told me I was excellent at everything I was doing except time management and still, 10 years later, I still struggle with that. I am a high orange on the Color Personality Test so I like to cram as many things into my schedule as possible. What do you do when you aren’t working? My husband and I live in Plainfield, Indiana and when I am not working one of my five jobs, we are going to high school and college basketball games, exercising at the gym and visiting family at the lake. This is all going to change this spring as we are expecting our first baby on May 23rd. For more about Whitney and the rest of the CSC team, visit the Meet Our Team webpage!
