According to the #GivingTuesday website, “#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.” It is intended to kick-off the giving season of the holiday season.
#GivingTuesday is going to take place on November 27th this year. This is the 7th year, and since 2012 giving has grown every year. Last year a record $274 million was raised, according to The Nonprofit Times.
So here is what you need to know for this year’s #GivingTuesday:
How to Stay Informed:
Get your organization involved now! Although there is still plenty of time before this year’s #GivingTuesday, do not wait to start the process. Sign your organization up on the #GivingTuesday website here and make sure that you are receiving communications and updates. A successful campaign will require ample time and planning, and #GivingTuesday has many great resources to help get you started- but get in the loop right away!
How to Get Connected:
#GivingTuesday has a directory available online so that you can get connected with others participating in your community. Since the day is all about giving and collaboration, make you you get connected with other organizations and stay in the know on different events happening near you!
You can search by city, state, organization name and type, and more to find events, organizations, and other partners. As of now, there are 48,535 entities listed in their directory!

Planning Your #GivingTuesday Initiative:
(We recognize that there is only about 6-7 weeks left until #GivingTuesday, so if you haven’t even started planning yet- don’t worry! There is still time. But start now! Put a plan in place, set a timeline, work with your staff & community, and get going!)
#GivingTuesday has free toolkits available online to help get your organization started on its own campaign. There are Communications, Social Media, and Proclamation Toolkits available for download, as well as sample press releases, and the official 2018 Complete Toolkit, all available on the website.
